What is energy performance index
The Energy Performance Indicator Tool (EnPI) V5.1.5 is a regression analysis-based tool developed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO). The tool applies to businesses whether in the manufacturing sector, commercial buildings, federal agencies, data centers, or beyond. Energy benchmarking defines an intensity measure of process energy performance. It can be used to determine the baseline of energy performance to compare with peers and measure the effects of operation and process changes. The most important result of energy benchmarking is the indication of energy intensity for individual processes. Energy Efficiency Index (EEI), or sometimes known as Building Energy Index (BEI), is the most commonly used index as a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) to track and compare performance of energy consumption in buildings. Energy performance index (EPI) is total energy consumed in a building over a year divided by total built up area in kWh/sq m/year and is considered as the simplest and most relevant indicator for qualifying a building as energy efficient or not. It forms one of the many indicators in the holistic definition of green buildings.
